Dark Hollow Farm and Hillwood Stable’s first-time starter DRESS UP looked divine in the winner’s circle after winning a maiden special weight at Laurel Park on March 21. Needing every yard of the five and a half-furlong test, she rallied from a half-dozen lengths back, swung wide on the turn and ran greenly down the stretch to catch the leader in a thriller at the wire, winning by the bob of her nose.
The 3-year-old daughter of Not For Love was training smartly for her debut with Rodney Jenkins, and went off as the 2-1 favorite in the field of eight. DRESS UP is the third winner from as many foals for stakes winner Dress Grey, a daughter of Lion Hearted who won the Smart Halo S. at Laurel.
Dress Grey’s dam, the Secret Hello mare Chemise, produced five foals by Not For Love, all winners, including stakes winner Coquettish and three-time stakes-placed Hello Lover, who had the second most wins in the nation in 2012 (with nine) and has earned $399,055. Chemise – whose nine starters all won – is also the dam of Maryland Million Ladies S. winner Miss Lombardi.

Racing on the front-end of the 1-mile maiden special weight at Laurel Park on Jan. 31, the Graham Motion-trained ARRIVE dug in down the stretch and reached the wire in front, getting his first win by a neck. Racing for the partnership of Dark Hollow Farm, Dorsey Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Davidov et al, the 3-year-old chestnut son of Street Boss has been in the top three in three of his four starts, and is the second winner from three foals for his dam DREAM OUT LOUD.
A daughter of Stravinsky, DREAM OUT LOUD is also the dam of graded stakes-placed DREAM, a consistent daughter of Malibu Moon who won or placed in five of seven starts and counted a second in the Pike Creek S. and thirds in the Cicada S.-G3 and Trevose S. DREAM is now a member of the Dark Hollow Farm broodmare band.
DREAM OUT LOUD, a half-sister to champion MAGISTRETTI, was purchased in 2006 by the partnership of Dark Hollow Farm, Dorsey Brown, Arnold Davidov, David and Alena Schwaber and Fast Kitty Farm while carrying her first foal. The colt she delivered next spring, by Gone West, sold for $100,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale. She is currently in foal to Congrats.

Born less than three weeks apart in April 2006, the Not For Love boys grew up romping in the fields at Dark Hollow Farm. HELLO LOVER, the gray colt out of Linda Newton's mare Chemise, was the older of the two, and sold as a yearling for $105,000. At the same Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale, EIGHTTOFASTTOCATCH, bred by Dark Hollow Farm & Herringswell Stable out of multiple stakes producer Too Fast to Catch, brought $47,000.
Their careers took them on separate paths, but the two were finally reunited at Laurel Park on Dec. 1. Sent off as the first and second choices in the $100,000 Jennings Handicap, they finished one-two, as EIGHTTOFASTTOCATCH (the 1.80-1 second choice) set the pace and came home five and a half lengths ahead of HELLO LOVER, the even-money choice who rallied from last in the field of seven to snare second. Adding in the purses from the Jennings, the duo have combined to earn $926,010 in their careers.
EIGHTTOFASTTOCATCH is now a six-time stakes winner in a 37-start career in which he has earned $535,430. His other stakes wins included last year's Jennings Handicap and the Maryland Million Classic.
HELLO LOVER, who has more earnings this year ($276,020 compared to $144,240 for EIGHTTOFASTTOCATCH) is tied for second as the winningest horse in the nation in 2012, one win behind the leader, having captured nine of his 15 starts. Third in the Greenwood Cup S-G3 at Parx Racing this past July, HELLO LOVER has $390,580 in career earnings.

MYSTIC LOVE Kissed the Boys Goodbye in Gulfstream’s Dania Beach Stakes!
Turf loving 2-year-old filly MYSTIC LOVE tackled nine colts and geldings in Gulfstream Park’s $100,000 Dania Beach S. at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, Dec. 15 and mesmerized them with her kick for home, driving clear in midstretch and holding off the late rally of odds-on choice Charming Kitten to win by a half length. Overlooked at 16-1, the dark bay Maryland-bred daughter of Not For Love ridden by Elvis Trujillo paid $34 to win.
From a female line that traces directly back to Christiana Stables’ famed producer Obeah, MYSTIC LOVE was bred by Dark Hollow Farm out of the young winning Dixie Union mare Memories of Mystic who was also bred Dark Hollow. MYSTIC LOVE’s second dam, Mystic Dance, a stakes winner of $102,908, produced stakes winners Dance Fee ($336,100, Justakiss S, etc.) and Chancellor M. H.
It was the second stakes win for MYSTIC LOVE following her success in the five and a half-furlong $150,000 Selima S. at Laurel Park in October. The Frannie Campitelli-trained filly races for John Davison, who purchased her for $21,000 from the Dark Hollow Farm consignment at the 2011 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Eastern Fall Yearling sale. She has now earned $174,760 in four starts and is a leading contender for 2012 Maryland-bred championship honors.
Noted Frannie Campitelli, whose wife Jessica sent out the Florida-based filly: “She’s always trained like the longer the better, really. Her getting the distance wasn’t a great surprise. I was more surprised she was able to win at five and a half.” MYSTIC LOVE’s next likely start is the $100,000 Sweetest Chant, a mile turf stakes for fillies, on Jan. 27.

MYSTIC LOVE got her first stakes win in one of racing’s most historic tests for 2-year-old fillies, the 83rd running of the Selima S. at Laurel Park on Saturday, Oct. 27. And she did it in spectacular fashion.
Breaking next to last in the field of 12, the dark bay daughter of Not For Love gradually settled into stride, then accelerated around the far turn and swept past her rivals to get up in time in the race worth $150,000, finishing 5½ furlongs over the firm turf in 1:02.23.
Trained by Frannie Campitelli for John Davison, who purchased the filly from the Dark Hollow Farm consignment for $21,000 at the 2011 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Eastern Fall Yearling sale, MYSTIC LOVE upped her career earnings to $114,760 in three starts. She broke her maiden in her debut in September by 4 lengths on the turf – now with two wins from as many starts on the grass, her trainer notes, “She just loves it.”
MYSTIC LOVE is the second foal bred by Dark Hollow Farm out of Memories of Mystic, a winning daughter of Dixie Union also bred Dark Hollow. Second dam Mystic Dance, a stakes winner of $102,908, produced stakes winners Dance Fee ($336,100, Justakiss S, etc.) and Chancellor M. H. The family of SAFELY HOME continues to bring joy. Dark Hollow Farm’s homebred 2-year-old JOY, a direct descendant of Dark Hollow’s legendary foundation mare SAFELY HOME, got her first win with a frontrunning score on Friday, Nov. 2 at Laurel Park.
A chestnut daughter of Pure Prize, JOY took a clear lead into the stretch under Jeremy Rose in the one-mile maiden special weight and proved tough as she raced to the second wire, turning back favorite Classy Broad and six other rivals to win by three-quarters of a length. Trained by Graham Motion, the filly was making her third start, but her first going a distance as far as a mile.
JOY represents the third-generation of SAFELY HOME’s special family. She is the first foal for the winning Flatter mare SAFE JOURNEY, who is out of stakes-placed $114,923-earner Safe At the Plate. A half-sister to Eclipse Award-winning sprinter and Breeders’ Cup Sprint-G1 winner SAFELY KEPT, Safe At the Plate is also the dam of graded stakes-placed runners Cognac Kisses ($178,094) and Kettle Won ($113,606) and $361,313-earner Glide Home.
