MYSTIC LOVE Kissed the Boys Goodbye in Gulfstream’s Dania Beach Stakes!
Turf loving 2-year-old filly MYSTIC LOVE tackled nine colts and geldings in Gulfstream Park’s $100,000 Dania Beach S. at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, Dec. 15 and mesmerized them with her kick for home, driving clear in midstretch and holding off the late rally of odds-on choice Charming Kitten to win by a half length. Overlooked at 16-1, the dark bay Maryland-bred daughter of Not For Love ridden by Elvis Trujillo paid $34 to win.
From a female line that traces directly back to Christiana Stables’ famed producer Obeah, MYSTIC LOVE was bred by Dark Hollow Farm out of the young winning Dixie Union mare Memories of Mystic who was also bred Dark Hollow. MYSTIC LOVE’s second dam, Mystic Dance, a stakes winner of $102,908, produced stakes winners Dance Fee ($336,100, Justakiss S, etc.) and Chancellor M. H.
It was the second stakes win for MYSTIC LOVE following her success in the five and a half-furlong $150,000 Selima S. at Laurel Park in October. The Frannie Campitelli-trained filly races for John Davison, who purchased her for $21,000 from the Dark Hollow Farm consignment at the 2011 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Eastern Fall Yearling sale. She has now earned $174,760 in four starts and is a leading contender for 2012 Maryland-bred championship honors.
Noted Frannie Campitelli, whose wife Jessica sent out the Florida-based filly: “She’s always trained like the longer the better, really. Her getting the distance wasn’t a great surprise. I was more surprised she was able to win at five and a half.” MYSTIC LOVE’s next likely start is the $100,000 Sweetest Chant, a mile turf stakes for fillies, on Jan. 27.
