Here’s looking at you LIME DROP KID
Making his first start on a dirt track when the mile and a sixteenth maiden special weight came off Pimlico’s turf course on Friday, May 24, Earle I. Mack’s 4-5 favorite LIME DROP KID rallied from far back over the muddy surface and surged past the frontrunners to get up for a neck victory. The 4-year-old son of Lemon Drop Kid trained by Roger L. Attfield carried as many as 12 pounds more than his rivals and recorded his first win after hitting the board in starts at Woodbine and Gulfstream Park.
LIME DROP KID was bred by Dark Hollow Farm, Mr. and Mrs. Dorsey Brown and Arnold Davidov out of the stakes-winning Canadian mare TOUCHNOW. Purchased by the partners for $195,000 at the 2008 Keeneland November Breeding Stock sales with LIME DROP KID in utero, TOUCHNOW has had three foals sell for her connections. LIME DROP KID was purchased by Mack for $140,000 at the OBS Spring 2-year-old sale in 2011; the next year, the Stormy Atlantic filly Stormkeeper brought $100,000 at the OBS Select 2-year-old sale; and the Corinthian colt named Alittlebittouchy was a $50,000 yearling at the 2012 Keeneland September sale.
TOUCHNOW, a daughter of champion Pleasant Tap and half-sister to two stakes winners from the family of champion handicap horse Turkoman, had a Bluegrass Cat colt in 2012 and produced an Include filly that past April.

Full sister to PLUM is top filly in FTM May sale’s first session
Topping all juvenile fillies sold at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Two-Year-Olds in Training sale on the first day was Dark Hollow Farm’s chestnut daughter of Pure Prize out of the Not For Love mare Bamba. The full sister to 2011 Maryland-bred champion 2-year-old filly PLUM sold for $240,000 to renowned racing executive Charles Cella. Lynn Whiting, who trains the Cella horses, signed the ticket. Trainer Greg Gilchrist, of champion Lost in the Fog fame, was the underbidder.
Prepared by Niall Brennan Stables, agent, PLUM’s sister worked an eighth-mile in :10.60. Brennan told Thoroughbred Daily News before the sale: “For a May foal, she is a beautifully grown, balanced filly - tall, scopey, with a lot of length to her and tremendous substance. She doesn’t look like a May foal. She is a very elegant filly who gets over the track beautifully. Her full-sister can run and she worked out lovely on the racetrack and galloped out superbly. She is a two-turn filly with a lot of class and a big future ahead of her.”
The filly is the fifth foal out of stakes-placed Bamba, who was also bred by Dark Hollow Farm. Bamba’s four older foals are all winners - in addition to Maryland Juvenile Filly Championship Stakes winner PLUM, she is the dam of $148,130-earner U Boat Alley, $90,430-earner Marianotojorge, and current 3-year-old Raven’s Dance, who broke his maiden first time out this year.
Bamba produced a 2013 colt by Warrior’s Reward and is back in foal to Paddy O’Prado on a March 27 cover.

MISTY IN MALIBU wires field at Pimlico
Loving the feel of the firm Pimlico turf beneath her feet, Dark Hollow Farm and Hillwood Stable LLC’s MISTY IN MALIBU set every fraction en route to a two-length allowance score on Saturday, April 27.
The win was as impressive as her first one, which came in her career debut at Laurel Park in September 2012. This time out, with Xavier Perez getting the call for the first time, the flashy dark bay daughter of Malibu Moon went quickly to the front and was never seriously threatened, striding beautifully to the wire.
Trained by Rodney Jenkins, 4-year-old MISTY IN MALIBU was purchased privately by David and JoAnn Hayden and Ellen Charles. Preakness Day card overcome with JOY!
Taking on older runners in a jam-packed field on a jam-packed Preakness Day, Dark Hollow Farm’s 3-year-old filly JOY made all her supporters smile with a rousing stretch run over the Pimlico turf on Saturday, May 18.
The chestnut filly trained by Graham Motion loved the feel of the firm sod beneath her feet, rallying from more than nine lengths off the pace and cruising home to win by two and three-quarters lengths in the $52,000 allowance. Her time was a solid 1:41.74 for the mile and a sixteenth. Hall of Famer Edgar Prado, the former Maryland leading rider who went on to even greater fame and glory, was aboard for the ride. Somewhat overlooked in the betting, JOY returned $10.80 to win.
From the family of Dark Hollow’s legendary foundation mare SAFELY HOME, the Pure Prize filly is the first foal for the winning Flatter mare SAFE JOURNEY, who is out of stakes-placed $114,923-earner Safe At the Plate. A half-sister to Eclipse Award-winning sprinter and Breeders’ Cup Sprint-G1 winner SAFELY KEPT,  a member of the National Racing Hall of Fame, Safe At the Plate is also the dam of graded stakes-placed runners Cognac Kisses ($178,094) and Kettle Won ($113,606) and $361,313-earner Glide Home.

EIGHTTOFASTTOCATCH skates to Pimlico stakes victory!
For the seventh time in his career, Sylvia E. Heft's EIGHTTOFASTTOCATCH got the big score, and this time took the show on the road by winning Pimlico’s $100,000 Henry S. Clark Stakes on Saturday, April 20 by five lengths. It was his first stakes win away from his Laurel Park homebase.
Trained by Timothy L. Keefe, the 7-year-old chestnut gelding shook off the winter rust and proved back to old form, shooting to the front from the start under Forest Boyce and never backing down. He extended his lead through the stretch and came home in 1:43.91 for the mile and a sixteenth in the off-the-turf Clark.
Bred by Dark Hollow Farm and Herringswell Stable, EIGHTTOFASTTOCATCH got his 12th career win from 41 starts, has 11 stakes wins or placings and earnings of $645,430. Out of Too Fast to Catch (by Nice Catch), he is a half brother to BAYONNE (by Dance With Ravens), a stakes winner of $177,783 who finished third in the $200,000 Sugar Maple Stakes at Charles Town later that evening of April 20.
