Dream Out Loud foaled a colt by Street Boss about 12:35 this morning. The turn out pics were taken at just under 12 hours old. This handsome boy arrived 4 days early as Dream was due on May 1st. Both Mom and son appear to be fine.

Memories of Mystic foaled her second foal at 9:30pm on Saturday evening. This regal looking filly is by Not For Love. Mystic will be bred back to Roman Ruler.

Joe Torre Visits Derby Hopeful Homeboykris

Torre About 30,000 thoroughbreds are foaled each year in the U.S., 20 of them qualify to be loaded into the starting gate at next month's Kentucky Derby, and Dodgers manager Joe Torre is part-owner of one of them.

On Wednesday at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky., site of the May 1 $2 million Kentucky Derby, Torre will meet for the first time Homeboykris, then return to Cincinnati in time for that night's Dodgers-Reds game. Barring something unforeseen, Homeboykris has just enough graded-stakes earnings to make the cut for the Run for the Roses.

And Torre admits he's about to come down with a serious case of Derby Fever.

"I think it's going to hit me when I see him," said Torre, who has owned race horses since 2004 but has never seen Homeboykris in person. "It's going to be exciting."

Torre had a runner in the female equivalent of the Derby, the 2005 Kentucky Oaks, in which his Sis City finished fourth as the odds-on favorite. He's never had a starter in the Kentucky Derby. Few horse owners have.

George Steinbrenner, Torre's boss with the Yankees, has had a passion for racing virtually the equal of his love for the Yankees and baseball. Steinbrenner has had six Derby entrants without a win, including 2005 favorite Bellamy Road, who was injured in the race.

"When I think of the Derby, I think of Steinbrenner," said Torre. "That's the one missing piece from his trophy case."

EIGHTTOFASTTOCATCH grabs win in New York

Eightoofasttocatch Tackling a field of stakes horses in a mile and a sixteenth turf allowance at Aqueduct in his 2010 debut, EIGHTTOFASTTOCATCH was ready to roll. The Tim Keefe-trained 4-year-old turned in a frontrunning performance to take the $45,000 turf test by three-quarters of a length. The son of Not For Love owned by Sylvia Heft got his third win in 14 career starts.

A $47,000 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Eastern Fall Sales yearling bred by Dark Hollow Farm and Herringswell Stable, EIGHTTOFASTTOCATCH is a half-brother to stakes winner and Grade 1-placed Storm Punch (Two Punch). To date, EIGHTTOFASTTOCATCH has earned $88,800.

Kentucky Derby Next For Dark Hollow's Homeboykris

Homeboykris-2.PM Homeboykris, winner of the Grade 1 Champagne at 2 and currently 20th on the graded earnings list for the Kentucky Derby, worked six furlongs in 1:14 at Gulfstream Park on Wednesday.

Homeboykris, who has not started since finishing second behind stablemate Radiohead under allowance conditions at Gulfstream on Feb. 27, went in fractions of 12.20 seconds, 24.80, 37.00, 49.40, and 1:01.80 according to track clockers, who said he galloped out seven-eighths in 1:30 and change.

"The rider said he went good so we're good right now," said trainer Rick Dutrow Jr. "We're just winging it with him at the moment. The weather has been bad down here but we had a chance to breeze him today so we breezed him."

Dutrow said he'd like to work Homeboykris every six days leading up to the Derby, although that could conflict with his flight to Kentucky, which is scheduled for next Tuesday, April 20.

"I'd like to breeze him here on the 20th, we'll just have to see how early the flight is," said Dutrow. "If he gets one more work here, he'll likely work just once more in Kentucky."
